Offshore oil jobs are available if you look hard enough, I think people generally don’t even bother looking as they think it is a closed shop. Well, it may well of been or indeed still may well be, but there are ways to get in.

The oil rigs have always been difficult to get onto, mainly as they don’t want just any old Tom & Dick jumping offshore and claiming to be a North Sea Tiger or Pacific Tiger or any other form of oil rig Tiger…

You just couldn’t jump on a rig…It just does not happen without knowing exactly where to go and who to see.

I guess as well as the obvious about qualifications and making it difficult for a reason, this has snow balled over the years into some secret society, ok, not exactly a secret society but you get the picture.

You just cannot apply for a job offshore from absolutely know where, you can but it wouldn’t be worth your time doing so as it would go in the bin faster than a rabbit runs down a hole…Yep, think again if you woke up this morning and decided you want a career offshore on the oil rigs, forget about it and go back to sleep.

Firstly, you don’t need any special skills as in college or high school you mainly need trade skills or a proven background in some form of oil construction or similar. Construction is a key word as you would have a head start to the average Joe off the street if you have done some kind of construction work, this is an absolute minimum requirement.

Then you need to think about your medical and survival to get offshore, that can be expensive, if you want to get offshore you need to be in the running. If you have not got your survival or medical up to date you can forget about it.

As  working offshore pays so much money they don’t pay for any of eat, think of it as a big cake at the end of the table that you would like to take a big bite out of…They know that and tease you by showing you the cake but you can’t touch it till you prove that you have the right to touch it, make sense?
